Scams & Consumer Issues in Wyoming

Wyoming's Consumer Protection Act (WS Section 40-12-101 et seq.) provides both AG enforcement and a private right of action under WS Section 40-12-108. Consumers who suffer actual damages may recover those damages plus attorney fees. Courts may award up to three times actual damages for willful violations. The statute of limitations is one year from discovery under WS Section 40-12-109 — one of the shortest periods nationally. The Wyoming AG enforces the Act and may seek civil penalties up to $10,000 per violation, injunctions, and restitution. Wyoming does not have a comprehensive statewide residential general contractor licensing requirement, though electrical contractors must be licensed through the Wyoming Electrical Board and plumbing contractors through the Wyoming Plumbing Board. Local jurisdictions may impose their own contractor registration requirements.
